Thermal Camera

Thermal photos are cool and very handy! Unfortunately the cameras are very expensive. We should be able to make our own with a IR thermometer, a pan/tilt bracket and two servos. The trick is to mount the IR thermometer on the bracket and find some way to read the temperature value with our lovely Arduino board and have it control the backet to give us measurements for a given X,Y value. The values should then be assembled by a piece of software that can assign colors from dark blue over red and yellow to white depending and make a resulting image…

Inspiration

Equipment

Cheap IR thermometer - DKR 249,- (mchro has one)

Pan/Tilt bracket - DKR 49,- (akv)

2 servos - DKR 79,95 (akv)

Pro/Cons

Pro
  • cheap (less than 1000 DKR for everything)
Con
  • slow (only “Stilleben”)
  • very low resolution ( 15×15 to 20×20 pixels in a 90×90 degree sweep - maybe this can be enhanced with some tubing in front of sensor)
